Jade – Classic Quality Jewelry
If I had unlimited funds, I would spend much of it on objects made from jade, both artefacts and modern pieces. The subtle shades of green and purple are so attractive to me. Jade jewelry is understated, rather than “in your face” evidence of many other stones.
Jade is an incredibly tough material, stronger than steel, and in prehistoric times is used for ax heads, knives and weapons. It’s just that, more recently, beauty Jade has led to its use in jewelry and ornaments.
There are two forms of jade, jadeite and nephrite. Both structures are very different but have similar properties. Structural differences do not affect the use to which it is jade, which are to an important collector of gems.
Jade comes in a variety of colors, emerald green coveted “Imperial Jade” roses, delicate lavender. The emerald green color occurs because the rocks contain traces of chromium compounds. Other shades of green from the presence of iron compounds, while shades of pink and lavender are produced by compounds of manganese.
Most people think of Chinese art, thinking of the jade, and rightly so, since 3000BC Jade was called the Royal Gem in China. In China, jade symbolizes wisdom, justice, compassion, modesty and courage.
Jade is also found in New Zealand and Central America. It is retained by the Mayas, Aztecs and Maori for hundreds of years. The ancient Egyptians also admired jade, and the value of harmony and balance of the stone.
Jewelry tends to favor lavender jade modern, perhaps because it is so much by the parameters of silver and platinum. Jade bracelets, earrings and necklaces are attractive to a spectator, what good taste and spending as much as sapphires and diamonds.
